    Jax Prenatal Yoga classes are taught by seasoned prenatal yoga instructor, Michelle Baur.  Michelle has over 20 years experience in the health & fitness field, over 10 years teaching prenatal yoga, is a trained Doula and homebirthing mom of 3 kids.  Throughout Michelle’s classes, there is a constant reminder to the moms that their body is very strong and very wise. Their body was made for this, and it knows what it is doing. There is a strong focus on releasing fears and anxieties surrounding pregnancy and birth, while learning to embrace this journey as they find confidence within themselves to birth their babies with courage and ultimately achieve the birth they desire. During pregnancy, many women turn to Prenatal Yoga as a way to stay healthy and to help them prepare for the birth of their baby. During class, women work on strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and stability, while focusing on breath and relaxation. Prenatal Yoga is safe and gentle enough for women at all stages of pregnancy, whether they are newly pregnant or due any day. The class is designed to be effective for all levels of fitness, from the beginner to the advanced. As the body changes throughout a woman’s pregnancy, so will the poses and movements during their class. Modifications are shown during each Prenatal Yoga class to provide alternatives to each pose. Participants can adjust the class to meet their own needs, while working with their ever-changing body. Throughout the class, women listen to their body above all and work within their own limitations. Prenatal Yoga gives women the time to block out all distractions and focus only on their body and on their baby. This quiet time helps women prepare not only physically, but also mentally for the sacred event of their baby’s birth. Women learn to focus on their deep, relaxing breath; a breathing technique that they can use during their labor and birth. Women also learn to fully relax the body and mind which can aid in a much easier and enjoyable childbirth. By taking Prenatal Yoga with Michelle, moms in all stages of pregnancy can safely work on strength, endurance, flexibility and balance while practicing breath, relaxation and practical birthing techniques.     A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT SYNERGY STUDIO… The concept of the studio was inspired by similar businesses in 1999 in big cities in states such as Florida with laws providing direct access to physical therapy. The studio opened in 2000 in its current Avondale location. Our business model provides a continuum of care from injury to wellness, however you do not need to have an injury to benefit from what Synergy Studio has to offer. We are licensed medical professionals, Physical Therapists (PT) and Massage Therapists (LMT) who have had comprehensive training through Polestar Pilates Education, LLC and have completed the rigorous post course testing. We combine the genius of Joseph Pilates’ work with the science of western medicine and the wisdom of eastern medicine in an effort to truly treat the whole patient/client rather than their symptom or symptoms. As PTs why would we want to do such a thing when insurance wants us only to focus on the diagnosis that is written on the referral slip? The answer is simple and easy, we want people to not only heal their injury but also to learn how to prevent future injury. In the insurance driven model of physical therapy it is financially rewarding to have a patient return multiple times with multiple sites of injury or with a chronic complaint. The Synergy Studio model rejects that paradigm. What we do every day is elevate physical therapy with pilates because our patients learn how to balance strength and flexibility throughout their bodies and wake up their nervous systems to effect fundamental changes in how they move. Mr. Pilates was a pioneer in this philosophy of the body. Few people are familiar with his other opinions on balancing work and rest, hygiene, the need for time outdoors, and many other lifestyle choices.   • BIKRAM YOGA JACKSONVILLE

    Bikram Yoga is a 90 minute series of twenty-six postures and two breathing exercises in a room heated to 105° and 60% humidity. When practicing this series you systematically move fresh oxygenated blood to one hundred percent of your body: every muscle, ligament, tendon, joint, organ is refreshed. 360°. This aids the body in it’s healing process, restoring all systems to healthy working order just as nature intended. Proper weight, muscle tone, vibrant good health, and a sense of well-being will automatically follow. • First time students should arrive at least 15 minutes before class begins. • Come on an empty stomach. • Avoid any sort of caffeine such as pop, coffee or tea since hydration is key. • Drink plenty of fresh water 24 hours before class to ensure you are properly hydrated. • Wear something light and fitted such as shorts, swimwear, sports bra. • Bring a yoga mat, 1 large towel and water. * rental mats, towels and water are available.

    Big Fish Power Yoga opened in 2010 by Alabama native, Mary Lyn Jenkins. Moving to Seattle, Washington in 2002 was Mary Lyn’s introduction to the Pacific Northwest and her first Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga class. As a set-designer and photo stylist, yoga was a hobby. Training was for fun. Leadership was part-time. When Mary Lyn and her beach boy husband, TF, moved back to his hometown, those part-time pieces became her passionate whole. Big Fish is the result of adventure, surrender, faith and possibility and Mary Lyn’s on-going transformation.
