    Modern And Spacious facility Our facility is state-of-the-art, but not in the way of your typical big-box gyms. We don’t have ellipticals or weight machines. We use your body and real weights to create free, natural movement. We only have machines that mimic functional movement, and none of those that don’t contribute to overall health and a lean, conditioned body. We welcome you to take a look around our box and our equipment – you won’t see full length mirrors but you’ll see results in your own mirror and in the fit of your clothes when you make the move to functional fitness. 10 Key things that make the facility world class. 1– We have adequate floor space to serve classes with over 20 athletes with space for our apprentice coaches to facilitate one on one personal training at the same time. 2– The Academy’s 20 foot ceilings provide a spacious feeling while providing room for critical CrossFit movements, like rope climbs. 3– You can drop weights since our space is covered from wall to wall with rubber flooring as this provides a safer environment for lifting weights. 4– No one like stuffy environments when they workout, so we have large bay doors to keep the gym full of fresh air and smelling so fresh and so clean, clean. 5– We have tons of natural light coming in the building so you never feel like your training in a dungeon. 6– We have plenty of parking so you are never getting into fights in the parking lot over a space like you do at the mall during Christmas. 7– Everyone loves to get a motivation honk while running and we have enough space in our lot to do a 400 meter lap without backtracking. 8– We like to workout but we enjoy socializing with cool people even more.     ABOUT US CrossFit Dominus, conveniently located between Jacksonville and Orange Park, Fl city limits, is a new business venture created by two close friends who met in the corporate fitness industry over eight years ago. Brooke Haas and Neil Alpahando helped change the lives of hundreds yearly through personal training. When they trained someone it was more than just a one hour “sweat session” though. To them it was finding out what motivated their clients, knowing how they were feeling before they even said a word, finding out how their week was, how their kids were doing in school and even what kinds of plans they had for the weekend. They were more than just trainers, in some ways they were life coaches. It was important to them to truly get to know their clients. The corporate gym culture does not always support this. Brooke and Neil believe that CrossFit allows for this, making it more than just an hour long “workout”. Each hour spent with a crossfitter provides a final outcome of gaining a “family”. This their goal as a CrossFit affiliate, to be able to join people together who desire to live a healthier lifestyle and have fun while working towards this. In December of 2014, a dream will be coming true for Brooke and Neil. Over the past year a lot of behind the scene work has gone into setting up CrossFit Dominus and their future crossfitters for success. For this reason we require our athletes to show both mechanics and consistency in our movements prior to adding intensity. These movements are taught best with a watchful eye and the skillset of a great coach. Unlike when you are put into a group class without personalized coaching. This can make you uncomfortable and more importantly put you at higher risk of injury. We have learned over the years that a higher coach to athlete ratio provides a better learning experience and overall a safer environment. It allows the athletes to learn better movement patterns and as a result yields a healthier community of people. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist. My name is Ryan Miller and I founded Strongpoint CrossFit in Jacksonville, Florida in 2011. I found CrossFit in 2008 when I was still an active duty Marine Corps Officer. I dipped my feet into the water with the classic benchmark workout “Barbara,” got hooked, and immersed myself into the system over the course of the next year. Not only did I see significant gains in my own performance during that time, but I was able to help the men and women under my charge improve as well. My purpose for opening Strongpoint was simple – to build a community of like-minded individuals and help them achieve their potential through better fitness and sound lifestyle choices. I am passionate about CrossFit and wholeheartedly believe that it is the most effective tool on the planet for helping regular people achieve their potential not just in fitness, but in life. I saw my fitness level dramatically improve and used it to train hundreds of Marine Corps and Navy Officer Candidates to a higher level during my time on active duty. I love the CrossFit community and watching people that did not even know each other prior to CrossFit become best friends in and outside the gym. You will typically not see things like bicep curls in our classes. It’s rare for anyone to operate a single joint at a time in life and sport and that is exactly how we train in the gym. Expect to see compound, multi-joint movements. That is the heart of functional movement and is where we get the intensity from in CrossFit. A lot of people do a twenty minute workout in two hours… Our members do a two-hour workout in twenty minutes! In terms of programming, our classes are very structured into specific parts. We begin each session with a thorough warm up and mobility work followed by a strength or skill piece and then capped off by a conditioning workout. We focus hard on instructing basic movements and our coaches teach, review, and refine movements every single session. Our goal is brilliance in the basics and this comes back to another tenant of CrossFit, learning correct mechanics, performing them with consistency, and then adding intensity. In other words, we want our members to do things correctly before they start moving with greater speed and heavier loads. Beginners and experienced Strongpoint members alike routinely scale and modify workouts to their ability level, which ensures that they get the correct stimulus needed to adapt and improve without going too hard too fast and injuring themselves. As for the fun in the community, the philosophy that Glassman began teaching has been shown to be effective in prescription and we have seen amazing results when implemented in a group environment. These movements are taught best under the watchful eye and the skillset of great coaches, but made better when the practitioner is immersed into an environment of individuals that have been practicing and perfecting the movements. Our community is strong. It is friendly, positive, and chock full of good natured competition that will pull you closer to your goals at a faster rate than the individual gym experience. While competition intimidates some at first, our members generally find that it steepens the learning curve and accelerates their development. We firmly believe that the most important competition in the gym is the one with yourself and we want to see our members become better than they were where they started wherever that may be. We have learned over the years that a higher coach to athlete ratio provides a better learning experience but also a safer environment. It allows the athletes to learn better movement patterns and, as a byproduct, yields a stronger community of people. While we typically have one instructor leading each class, it is not at all uncommon to have several Level 1 certified instructors on the floor training during our classes and lending a hand when needed. At Strongpoint CrossFit, you will start out in a safe one-on-one environment at an Introduction to CrossFit. We conduct a thorough review of your health history, athletic background, discuss your goals, and make sure the program will be a good fit for you and what you hope to accomplish. From there, we will provide a broad overview of CrossFit as a fitness system as well as how we implement it at Strongpoint from how we organize our workouts to where to find the basic tools we use to help our members succeed.     Come in for a Free Intro session to experience how a CrossFit workout differs from the every day Globo Gym workout. Our OnRamp program is a course to teach you the Weightlifting, Gymnastics, and Fundamental movements that our program requires. We also discuss your goals and inform you on proper nutrition. New On-Ramp sessions begin the 1st Monday of the month. Each class meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7:00 pm for 12 sessions. You must complete this program in order to be eligible for regular class attendance. Upon completion of the OnRamp classes, you can then join any group class sessions that fit your schedule. *If you feel you are more advanced in your skills, and the program may be lower than your abilities, we can schedule an assessment appointment. During this session you will be tested on all the skills required in the OnRamp program and performance of them under workout conditions. You will not find rows upon rows of confusing exercise machines, elliptical machines, mirrors or the “muscle heads” that check themselves out in those mirrors and no distracting flatscreen TVs.  What you will find is your neighbor challenging you to beat him on a deadlift max; friendly competition.  You will find a friendly environment where you are considered family and dedicated coaches teaching small groups dynamic, functional movements which emphasize full body motion.  Our coaches train all physical level skills; we modify the work out of the day by degree not kind.  Training is varied everyday and compliments the ten general physical skills:  cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.     Welcome to CrossFit Acheron, we are a small gym committed to help build a great fitness community in Jacksonville.  Our programming is based on the foundational principles of CrossFit, which in 100 words consist of-Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.     Every CrossFit box (what we call our gym) is independently owned and operated with no mandatory consistency to how each one is run. Because of this, we highly recommend you call or visit multiple boxes before you make a decision to find the box that suits you best and will get you the results you want. We only offer month to month because we know things change. If you don’t like something, you should not be forced to pay for it over a long period of time. Also, we allow you to hold your membership for injury or illness. 2. Wodify Wodify, a software program for CrossFit boxes, combines scheduled training with CrossFit to create a friendly, competitive atmosphere. White boards explaining workouts of the day – or “WODs” – are replaced with shiny flat TV screens. Other functions such as ranking, performance records and personalized nutrition are streamlined into a single, web-based program that can be accessed externally by members and coaches. Keeping track of all your WOD-related performances has never been easier. 3. Free Seminars and Yoga Classes. These are included with your membership. CrossFit is not just WODs, it is whole body fitness. Our seminars cover everything from skills and movements (handstand push ups, snatches, cleans, etc.) to nutrition. Our yoga classes cover yoga (as you may have guessed), but as it relates to CrossFit movements, since our yoga and mobility instructors are regular members at CrossFit 904. 4.
